Village Festival 2021

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions the Festival Committee has not yet been able to meet, or indeed to consider the possibility of holding a Village Festival this year, similar to the ones we have held in the past.

However, we have decided that in lieu of this we should be able to host a ‘Knees Up/ Village Get Together’ on the Recreation Ground. This is scheduled for July 31st. It is a one day event and will be a simple occasion, featuring some live music throughout the afternoon, refreshments from the WI, a beer tent, which will be run by the Social Club and possibly, dependent on our timings a barbecue/ Hog Roast. We won’t be having a stage but will rely on alternative floor coverings, such as tarpaulins. Keeping it simple will allow us to cancel at the last minute should we have to.

The Parish Council have already agreed use of the Recreation Ground and Toby as Chairman of the Pavilion Committee has agreed use of the Pavilion from 10 a.m. both at no charge. Bob has kindly undertaken to look into the Insurance this year, and I have yet to apply for the Entertainment Licence. Costs should therefore be minimal but we will have a small raffle to cover any costs.

We will be meeting shortly on the Recreation Ground to ‘look at’ the gazebos and other equipment.

Hopefully we will be able to meet again later as a Committee to consider a Festival next year. Due to the Queen’s Jubilee Celebration, the dates of that are still under consideration as we may combine the two events.

In the meantime ideas have been floated about holding a Concert, either late Summer or during the Christmas season. Obviously, that is dependent on the COVID-19 restrictions that will be current at the time.
